Start your journey early in the morning from Delhi to Manali, a scenic drive of approximately 12–14 hours covering around 530 km through the breathtaking landscapes of Himachal Pradesh. The route winds through picturesque towns like Sundernagar, Mandi, and Kullu, offering mesmerizing views of rivers, pine forests, and misty hills. Keep your camera ready for beautiful roadside frames — especially near the Beas River valley.
Roadside Food & Stopovers: Enjoy breakfast at Murthal (famous for parathas with white butter) or a mid-way Punjabi dhaba for lunch. These spots serve authentic North Indian meals and are ideal for a quick refreshment break.
Travel & Clothing Tips: Carry warm layers — even in summer, the mountain breeze gets chilly by evening. Wear comfortable shoes for short walks during breaks, and carry motion sickness medicine if prone to nausea on mountain roads.
Arrival in Manali: Arrive by late evening and check-in to your pre-booked hotel. Spend the rest of the evening at leisure. If energy permits, take a short walk near Mall Road to soak in the alpine vibes. You’ll find small cafés, woollen shops, and local snack vendors. For dinner, you can either dine in at the hotel or try out the famous local dishes like Siddu (stuffed steamed wheat bread) and Tudkiya Bhaat (a Pahari-style rice dish).
Photo Spots: During the drive, scenic photo opportunities include Kullu Valley river bends, forest-covered mountain ridges, and small Himachali villages with traditional wooden homes.
Local Culture Tip: Respect local traditions by dressing modestly and asking before photographing villagers or temples. The drive introduces you to rural Himachal culture — from prayer flags fluttering on bridges to fruit vendors selling fresh apples or pears.
Overnight: Stay in Manali, nestled in the heart of the mountains. Take a good rest as your exciting Himachal adventure begins!
Wake up to the crisp mountain air and enjoy a hearty breakfast at your hotel. Today is dedicated to exploring the cultural and historical richness of Manali through its iconic local attractions.
1. Hadimba Devi Temple: Start your day by visiting the Hadimba Devi Temple, also known as the Dhungri Temple, located amidst a cedar forest. Built in 1553, this pagoda-style temple is dedicated to Hidimba, the wife of Bhima from the Mahabharata. Its wooden architecture with intricately carved doors and a tranquil forest setting make it a spiritual and photogenic spot.
2. Manu Temple: Next, visit the Manu Temple, dedicated to the sage Manu, believed to be the creator of mankind. Located in Old Manali, it offers insight into Hindu mythology and is surrounded by the serene Beas River.
3. Vashisht Temple & Hot Springs: Drive to Vashisht Temple, famous for its natural hot springs. The temple is more than 4,000 years old and attracts both pilgrims and travelers. You can take a dip in the therapeutic waters or simply enjoy the calm hillside ambiance. Don't forget to explore the nearby Vashisht village, known for its cozy cafés and bohemian vibe.
4. Club House & Van Vihar: After lunch, visit Club House for indoor activities and riverfront cafés. Then walk through Van Vihar, a peaceful forest park ideal for photos and boat rides on a small pond. It’s a great escape from the crowded streets.
5. Tibetan Monastery & Local Art: Explore Gadhan Thekchhokling Gompa, a colorful Tibetan monastery in Manali, where you can spin prayer wheels and learn about Buddhist culture. The nearby Tibetan market is perfect for shopping woollens, handicrafts, and Tibetan jewelry.
Evening at Mall Road: Spend your evening at Mall Road, the heart of Manali. Indulge in shopping — look out for woolen clothes, pashmina shawls, and wooden handicrafts. Sample local snacks like momos, thukpa, and hot jalebi with rabri. Try cafés like Johnson’s Café or Café 1947 for a relaxed dinner by the river or fire-lit interiors.
Clothing Tip: Daytime is pleasant but evenings are chilly. Carry a light jacket and wear comfortable walking shoes for the uneven terrain in Old Manali and temple areas.
Photo Ideas: Best photo moments include forest paths around Hadimba Temple, hot springs in Vashisht, colorful prayer flags at the monastery, and sunset over the Mall Road ridge.
Overnight: Return to your hotel for rest. Recharge for the upcoming adventure to the high-altitude landscapes of Solang or Rohtang!
Get ready for a thrilling day after breakfast as you drive to Solang Valley, about 14 km from Manali. Known as the adventure capital of Himachal, this picturesque valley offers snow sports in winter and adrenaline-packed activities year-round.
Activities in Solang: Depending on the season, enjoy skiing, snowboarding, snow tube rides in winter, or paragliding, zorbing, ziplining, and ropeway rides in summer. The Solang Ropeway takes you to a breathtaking viewpoint where snow-capped peaks stretch as far as the eye can see.
Rohtang Pass (Optional): If open (May to November), and with a permit, you can visit Rohtang Pass — a 13,050 ft high mountain pass with views of glaciers and snowy landscapes. A great spot for family photos and snowball fights!
Clothing & Safety: Wear warm, waterproof clothing and good grip shoes. You can rent snow gear at the base camp. Apply sunscreen and carry sunglasses due to glare from the snow.
Food Tip: At Solang, try hot Maggi, tea, or momos from local stalls. A warm meal in a wooden café with mountain views is a unique Himachali experience.
Photography: Solang is a dreamland for landscape photography. Capture paragliders in the sky, yak rides, and the crisp white slopes against blue skies.
Return: After a full day of adventure, return to your hotel by evening. Relax with a hot shower and spend the night stargazing or sipping tea from your balcony.
After breakfast, check out and begin the scenic road journey to Shimla (approx. 7–8 hours). This route passes through Kullu Valley, Aut Tunnel, and the beautiful towns of Sundernagar and Bilaspur.
En Route Highlights: Stop at Kullu Shawl Factory to watch weaving demonstrations and shop for handcrafted shawls and woollen goods. Visit the banks of Beas River for some quiet photo moments and local fruit vendors.
Food Tip: Enjoy lunch en route at a roadside dhaba — try rajma-chawal or kadhi-chawal for a typical Himachali meal. Carry dry snacks and water for the road trip.
Arrival in Shimla: Arrive by evening and check-in to your hotel. Depending on time and energy, take a short walk to nearby Scandal Point or grab dinner at a cozy Shimla café.
Clothing Tip: Shimla’s evenings are cold — especially in winter. Dress in layers and wear sturdy shoes if you plan a post-drive walk.
Overnight: Stay in Shimla. Rest well for a full sightseeing tour the next day.
Today, explore the colonial charm and natural beauty of Shimla. Start with breakfast at the hotel, then proceed for your city tour.
1. Jakhoo Temple: Visit Jakhoo Hill, Shimla’s highest point. It houses a grand Hanuman statue (108 ft tall) and offers panoramic views of the city and valleys. Beware of monkeys — don’t carry food openly!
2. Kufri: Head to Kufri, about 16 km from Shimla, famous for snow (in winter), pony rides, and the Himalayan Nature Park. Ideal for family photos and playtime with snow or lush green hills (in summer).
3. Christ Church & Ridge: In the afternoon, visit the iconic Christ Church and walk along The Ridge. These spots reflect British-era architecture and are great for photography, especially at sunset.
4. Mall Road & Lakkar Bazaar: Shop for woollens, wooden souvenirs, and Himachali caps. Try baked goods from the Indian Coffee House or Wake & Bake Café. Don’t miss local desserts like Seera and Madra.
Clothing Tip: Comfortable walking shoes are a must, as most areas in Shimla require uphill or downhill walking. A light jacket is needed even in summer.
Overnight: Return to your hotel for a peaceful night’s sleep in Shimla.
Check out after breakfast and drive to Chandigarh (approx. 4–5 hours). Upon arrival, begin your city exploration.
